Speed Up Your N82 Gallery - Separation of Videos and Images Makes For A Better Experience

Hi guys, Aaron here again to share some quick tips for your n82. I know most of you may not find this post very helpful, but if you're like me who stores lots of media files on my phone, this tip is very handy.

The N82 maybe one of the fastest phone to date, but if we have hundreds of pictures and several video files stored on it, the gallery application becomes somewhat sluggish and takes like forever to load. I had this problem before, my gallery takes more than 10-15 seconds before the 'Opening..' dialog box let me access my media files. On a fresh reboot, it would take even longer. And it wont't respond to any key presses until a second or two. This is very irritating, especially when I need to take a look on some picture of notes or documents I need for reference. Also, if my friends want to browse my phone's gallery, I don't want them to wait so long and leave them the impression that my n82 is such a slowbro. In addition, my videos were scattered all over the gallery and there's no way possible to make it filter out videos from images or vice versa.

Based on my personal experience, video files are the major factor that slows down the gallery application. Especially those full length movies that you may have on your phone. If you want to speed up that gallery of yours, you can choose to separate your videos from your images on your N82 (a neat feature that is now implemented by FP2) by hiding them from the gallery. Just set your videos' hidden attributes to true using a third party file manager application like Y-Browser or X-plore. NOTE: Do not rely on setting the parent folder in order to hide several videos. See the Update below. Also, Video Center ONLY displays videos that are located on E:\Videos, and C:\Data\Videos (subfolders are not even scanned). You'll need to move all your videos there so that video center can see them.

Basically, your videos will only be hidden from the gallery, and not from Video Center. So if you want to watch videos, Video Center is the place to go. You can now enjoy browsing pictures on a much faster gallery application. I have 381 images on my phone now and the gallery loads it for as fast as 2-3 seconds (3-5secs on fresh reboot) and presentation is very smooth. Video Center on the other hand don't seem to have any problem dealing with my videos with regards to speed and accessibility. To stay organized, you can create folders to group your videos on Video Center.

----------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 3: A very good find by one of our regular visitors here, Gareth, is that, moving your videos to the 'My Videos' folder on your memory card will do it all (hiding them from showing up on the gallery, and displaying them on video center). No need to set file or folder attributes anymore! It works like charm on my n82.. If this does not work on yours, then check out Update 2 below.

UPDATE 2: (Might not work on some phones. See Update 3) Another solution is hiding the 'Videos' folder itself. This way, no need to manually hide your videos. Even if you record new videos, they will be automatically hidden from displaying on the gallery. But it will not work by just hiding the 'Videos' folder. We'll need to follow this workaround:

  1. Make sure that your Gallery and Video Center is not open.
  2. Ensure that 'Videos' folder (and any folders inside it) are NOT set as a hidden or system folder.
  3. Using X-plore, rename the 'Videos' folder, any name will do. I suggest simply add a few characters on its name. We'll just need to make the name 'Videos' available for a new folder that we will create.
  4. Open Gallery > Images and Videos to refresh its contents (to update the gallery from the change that was made).
  5. EXIT the Gallery, then back to X-plore, create a new folder on root of drive E:\ and name it Videos (E:\Videos).
  6. Set its hidden and system attributes to true.
  7. Transfer all your videos from the old 'Videos' (the one that you renamed) folder to this new 'Videos' folder. That leaves the old 'Videos' folder empty.
  8. That's it. All your videos are now hidden from the gallery.
  9. If you record new videos, they will not be displayed on the gallery anymore. But if you want them to be available on Video Center, you'll need to move them on E:\Videos. No need to set them as system or hidden files.

I also created a video guide for this. Again, make sure that your Gallery and Video Center is not open before starting:

----------------------------------------------------------

Well thanks to Feature Pack 2 on newer devices, I don't need to rant anymore about what s60 could have done to make the gallery application more useful and logical.

What do you think? Have you had any problems with your gallery or is it just me? Well you can't blame me, I keep hundreds of media files because friends and relatives enjoy watching them on the phone (sometimes on tv).

It'll be great for me to hear your thoughts. Or if you have questions, feel free to leave a comment.

UPDATE 1:

If your gallery displays several copies of one of your videos or several items with broken icons (see screenshots below), DO NOT delete anything. Or you will lose some if not all of your video files. If im not mistaken, this happens if you tried hiding several videos by simply setting their parent folder as a Hidden or System folder. So those several copies are actually different files (or so the gallery thinks but all of them are linked to only one file, that is the video that was duplicated).

To fix this:
  • Undo the hiding process you may have done on your files or folders

  • Make sure that 'Videos' folder (and any folders inside it) on your phone and memory card are NOT set as a hidden or system folder.

  • Exit the gallery to refresh its contents and then open it again to see if your files inside are back to normal.
If you still experience problems or have more questions, don't forget to leave comment ^^.

N82 Tips: Secure and Hide Files While Still Being Able to Access Them Easily

Posted By Aaron

As you may have remembered, hiding photos and videos from showing on your n82's gallery application has been already discussed here. In addition to setting files' system and hidden attributes, I just want to share additional tips on how to effectively limit access on valuable, personal and private files to yourselves only. ;-)

We can have our files hidden but the following are known concerns...

  1. Files are not password protected, meaning, they can still be accessed by other users. This can be a mate, your sister, your best friend, or the girlfriend (scary, lol), especially if they are familiar with s60 and they happen to do the browsing and stuff using your faithful file manager application.

  2. If we want to hide several files, hiding the parent folder will not do the job, so we will need to do it repeatedly on each and every file. (annoying of course)

  3. Videos still remain visible on Video Center.

Solution:

Needless to say, we will need a third party file manager application, preferably one that allows the user to set a program password. You can use any application you want. The one I use is my favorite, X-plore. A great file manager application. You can download X-plore here.

If you are using X-plore, make sure that it is configured to display
System and Hidden Files. To do this, Select Menu > Tools >
Configuration
(shortcut is 0).

Ensure that Show Hidden Files and Show system files/folders are
checked:

  1. The first problem is easily addressed by the file manager's program password itself. Now no one will be able to (or accidentally) open your file manager and browse your hidden files without entering the correct password.

To set the program password of X-plore:
    Select Menu > Tools >
    Configuration
(shortcut is 0). Scroll down until you see the program
    password option, then select it.

Enter a new password then hit Ok to save.

There is another solution, that is to zip the files using the N82's built in Zip application and set a password. This is more secure but the problem is, speed and accessibility. It will take several minutes before you can completely zip a number of files and images or even a single video file! And of course another long wait on file extraction in case you want to access the zipped files again.

  2. To hide several files easily:

    • Create a new folder, then set it as a System and Hidden folder.
    • Cut the parent folder of the files you want to be hidden, then move or paste it inside the folder you just created.

      To do this using X-plore:
Highlight the location/folder where you want to place the new folder. Then
select Menu > File > Make Dir (shortcut is 9).
Then type the name of the folder and press ok. (in the example, ill create a new folder on root of my memory card and name it "My hidden files"):

With the new folder currently highlighted, select Menu > File >
      Attributes
(shortcut is 6). Check the Hidden and System
      box.

To save the changes, select Change.

To move the parent folder of your personal files, make sure it is highlighted then select Menu >
      Edit
      > Move (shortcut is 2). You should see a "Move marked to:
.." caption at the upper part of the program:

Then, highlight the folder you just created (in my case, My hidden files),
select Menu > File > Select (shortcut is OK) to
      paste your personal files there:

  3. The key on hiding videos from Video Center completely is to change your videos' file extensions. Anything will do, .aaa, .abc, or .yourname, lol. If you want to watch the videos again, just open the file using your third party file manager. Normally, it will automatically launch real player and play your video file regardless of the file extension. Still, make sure your videos are hidden and set as system files. This is also applicable to almost any type of file, .doc, .pdf, .txt, .sis, .flv, etc.

In X-plore, highlight the file you want to rename then, select Menu >
    File
    > Rename (shortcut is 7). Change the extension, then hit Ok
    to save.

Hope this post helped. If you have some questions / problems, leave a comment and ill do my best to help you.

Make Bold & Italic Text In N82 Messages? Text Formatting Help Needed!

Notice the question mark in the title? It's because I don't know how to format text when writing a message on my Nokia N82. Am I missing something obvious.

Reason I ask is because I know it can be done.

Just look at the screenshot below...

Photobucket

Today while writing up the review for the iGo Stowaway Bluetooth Keyboard I realized that when I push Control+B on the keyboard it changes the text to bold characters while writing a text message. Typing Control+I makes italic and Control+U makes underline of course. For the life of me I can't figure out how to do it on my N82 without the bluetooth keyboard.

This functionality would really come in handy when pounding out those short blog articles from my N82 when I won't have the bluetooth keyboard with me. Not to mention how useful it can be when responding to emails when I'm away from the computer.

Does anybody know if this is possible on a Nseries device? I feel like I've tried everything.

Btw I'm going to have the iGo Bluetooth keyboard review by Friday. I'm loving it.

Introducing NuevaSync: The Absolute Best Way To Sync Your N82 And Google Calendar Over The Air

First off I'd like to say I've been a huge fan of CalSyncS60 for awhile now. It's still in the beta phase and still has minor glitches. You can't really schedule your updates or always have it synced 24/7. I've also noticed sometimes dates are off between my N82 and Google Calendar. So what else are we to do?

Warning: your gonna hit a roadblock if your already using Mail For Exchange for your email solution. I don't think there is a way to add more than one account in Mail For Exchange. If I am wrong, please someone correct me. If you aren't using Mail For Exchange already then you have no problem. Keep reading...

I am happy to bring you news of NuevaSync. I just discovered this service the other day when I spent hours trying to find a way to use Mail For Exchange as a direct solution for my Gmail account. I'm not happy with the built in email client on my N82 or any of the 3rd party applications available. Low and behold I came across NuevaSync...

NuevaSync right now is only a solution for your Google Calendar. Using the Exchange Sync Protocol, NuevaSync allows direct, over-the-air, native synchronization of certain smart phones and PDA devices with public PIM, and calendaring services including Google Calendar. For this to work on the Nokia N82 you obviously need to have the Mail For Exchange installed and running in the background.

I've been using this new service for a few days just to ensure that it works smoothly. So far it is working like a dream. All my N82's calendar entries are syncing perfectly with my Google Calendar in the background without me even noticing. The Mail For Exchange application has many options of when to sync and how often. I can add or delete calendar entries from my Google Calendar page or my Nokia N82 and the changes will show up on both ends.

Warning Again: If you want to readon you might want to make a sandwich and put on some tunes because this might take awhile. There are a handful of steps to take if you don't already use Mail For Exchange. Oh and make sure you first backup both of your calendars just in case something goes wrong.

Setting Up NuevaSync On Your Nokia Device

Follow these steps to setup NuevaSync on your Nokia N82 or any S60 3rd Edition smartphone that can use the Mail For Exchange application. This includes the Nokia N96, N95, N82, N81, N78, N77, N76, N75, N73, E90, E71, E71, E66, E65, E62, E61, E60, E51, E50, 6620, 6124.

1. Sign Up. Point your browser to https://www.nuevasync.com/. Go to the Signup page and make your account. Here you will make your own username and password, do not your Google account's information (yet). Wait for your confirmation email and then login to NuevaSync.

2. Grand Access. After logging in you will see the Status & Setup page. Here you will notice four different options to sync (Calendar, Contacts, Email, & Tasks). Right now only Calendar and Contacts are possible. I haven't yet tried out Contacts. Under actions click the "setup" link. The next page is where you'll type in your Google account email address and ask Google to give account access to NuevaSync. Make sure you click "Grant Access". Note: You can deny access anytime after granting access if you no longer want to use NuevaSync.

3. Verify A Connection. After granting access you will be taken back to the Status & Setup page. You should see a green light next to the Calendar row. Click that to verify your Google Calendar is able to sync with NuevaSync servers. Note: Only the calendars you create will sync because they are writeable. Other Calendars like Holidays and Weather will not sync.

4. Download & Install Mail For Exchange. Click the link "need help configuring your phone". You'll notice there is no help for Symbian S60 users. This is why I have made these instructions for you.

Screenshot0119 - Share on Ovi

Now is where Mail For Exchange comes in. Go to this link to download Mail For Exchange for the Nokia N82 if you don't already have it.

5. Mail For Exchange and NuevaSync settings.

Connection Tab
Exchange Server: www.nuevasync.com
Secure Connection: Yes
Default Port: Yes

Credentials Tab
Username: your NuevaSync username
Password: your NuevaSync password
Domain: nuevasync.com

Sync Content Tab
Synchronise Calendar: Yes
Everything else: No
In Case Of Conflict: I put "Server Wins"

Sync Schedule
Set these options to whatever you want. You can create a Peak Time and an Off-Peak Time, including days and hours. My Peak Schedule is "Every 4 hours", Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. My Off Peak Schedule is the other two days "Every 12 hours". If you want you can leave these settings to "Always On" or "Manual".

Any other settings can be tweaked to your liking. After you save your Profile you should see "Connecting" and "Syncing Calendar" under Current Status. If you see an error message than you have done something wrong and you must go back and look closely at your settings.

When your finished you can close Mail For Exchange and it will work in the background. I don't even think you will see the application in your task list, but I assure you that it is still there and working.

If I left anything out please let me know. It takes a bit of work to set this up but once you get it, it works flawlessly.

Troubleshooting

Right now there is not much support from NuevaSync for Nokia S60 phones. You can check out this page to see what they can do. If anything you can email them directly and they will help you out. They also have a blog where you can stay up to date on all the latest information about NuevaSync.

What About Email?

Oh me oh my. Being able to sync my Nokia N82 and Gmail via Mail For Exchange is my ultimate dream, and NuevaSync is working hard to make it come true. I hope they come up with something soon because I'm getting really ancy for this functionality. In my opinion this will be the best email solution available for Gmail and Nokia S60 handsets if they get it to work. I will be keeping a close eye on this to let you know when they enable this feature.

Problems & Other Information

One huge problem is that your gonna hit a roadblock if your already using Mail For Exchange for your email solution. I don't think there is a way to add more than one account in Mail For Exchange. If I am wrong, please someone correct me. If you are not using Mail For Exchange already then you have no problem.

Be sure to remember that this uses a data connection or Wifi. I'm not sure how much data is being transferred when you sync your two calendars so you might want to try and keep track of that if you don't have unlimited data. I'm sure it can't use that much if you only do a manual sync once per day.

Let me know if you guys have any questions or comments about NuevaSync and your Nokia device. Does this make a good solution for you or is this too complicated.

My N82 Now Shows Email & Text Message Details On My Standby Screen

Well this may not be the solution everyone is looking for, but it does the trick for me. After playing with an Eseries phone for awhile I've been wanting so bad to have email and text message details show on my N82's active standby screen. I would save me so much time to glance at the screen then put the phone back in my pocket if I see it's not important. The other day I was searching every corner of the net for a solution. After all, Nokia is "Open To Anything" right? So they say. I'm glad to say that a 3rd party developer has finally came up with a solution to one of the most wanted features on Nseries phones.

I finally came across an application called S60Ticker. This application allows me to have my latest unread emails and text messages show up on just my standby screen or any screen. It can show snippets of a text or the full message in a scrolling ticker, and can show the sender and subject of new emails from the default messaging application. It works well with with the theme I'm using or you can specify the colors you want to be used.

This application isn't the perfect solution to what we want but so far it's a damn good one. I know a few people that have tried S60Ticker in the past and didn't like it. So far I haven't ran into any problems.

S60Ticker is freeware unless you want to unlock some other features, you must pay around $9 which I gladly did. Getting the full version really makes the experience much nicer. Oh and it's already Symbian Signed so you don't have to worry about certificate errors or anything like that.

Read My Full Review...
Last night I posted a review of the application over at Symbian-Addict. Click here to check out the full review with more screenshots and details.

Or Just Download The App...
If you don't feel like reading my review and want to dive straight in click here to go to the developer page where you can find the application. There's lots to read so get comfly before you start disecting this application.

N82 Screen Brightness Fixed! How To Increase Your Brightness, The Hacked Way

Thanks to Mr-X from Finest Fones Blog for bringing it to our attention that there is now a way to increase the brightness of your Nokia N82. This has been one of the major gripes since the release of this phone. The picture (credits to Mr-X) above shows the N82 next to the N95 with equal brightness, something that has never been seen before. Update: It seems as though P@sco may have been the one behind this hack.

This is a huge accomplishment by members of the Symbian fanbase for finding a way to hack this and enable us to make the N82 screen better. It's just sad that it has to be done this win, big thumbs down to Nokia for not listening to our calls. Now Nokia, you will have many customers out there with hacked phones installing whatever applications they please without any restrictions at all. Congrats.

In order for you to perform this you must first hack your phone. I'm not sure how easy it is but I'm going to try it as soon as I have a few hours to sit down at my computer, hopefully tonight when I get off work.

First you can watch this video where Mr-X shows you the steps to take after your phone is already hacked.

Click here to go to Mr-X's tutorial page where you can also find links to hack your phone. Good luck and I'll be posting about this again hopefully with success in a few days. Let me know if any of you have success and let us know how it went.

IMAP Email Auto Retrievel Problem With Latest Firmware, Am I The Only One?

This problem has been driving me nuts for about a week, which is how long I've had my auto-retrieval enabled in my Nokia N82's email application. I'm using the latest firmware, and keep in mind this never happened in previous firmware. I've been trying to get help with this problem over at Howard Forums and it turns out a few others have noticed the same thing. So far no solution.

So...

I'm looking to my readers that use the Email Application with IMAP. Do you have auto-retrieval enabled? If so are you able to specify the amount of headers you want downloaded to your phone's inbox? With the last firmware I was able to select 30 headers to retrieve AND have auto retrieval enabled, everything worked fine and dandy.

Now I can't have it both ways. If I want to have auto retrieval on, all headers are downloaded to my inbox. With Gmail I get tons of emails everyday and they just pile up in my inbox unless I archive them. I have over 5,000 emails in my inbox alone. Of course this is unnecessary, but with Gmail theres no reason to get rid of them. So what happens when I turn on auto retreival on my phone? Literally thousands of headers are downloaded to my N82, which of course brings it to a halt. My email application now becomes unusable and takes like 5 minutes just to bring up the application. This is a joke. I should be able to tell the phone to download the last X amount of headers from my inbox, just like before.

Below are the screenshots to prove it...

under the Retrieval Settings...

Screenshot0004 - Share on Ovi Screenshot0009 - Share on Ovi

then this warning when I go to Automatic Retrieval and try to enable it!

Screenshot0010 - Share on Ovi

And now when I go back into my retrieval settings, it won't allow me to specify the amount of headers, like I told you before. It gives me another warning that I must disable auto retrievals?

Now I don't know if Nokia & Symbian have done this on purpose, or maybe it's an accident when they were creating the latest firmware on the N82. All I know is the Nokia N82, besides being a multimedia powerhouse also is meant to serve the business side of customers. This really is killing it for me, now I have to worry about keeping my Gmail inbox cleaned out so my phone doesn't freeze up. I'm seeing people with the Nokia E90 having this same exact problem with their latest firmware.

Let me know if your having this problem. If so speak up so hopefully Nokia will fix it with a firmware update. If you have IMAP setup but don't use auto-retrieval, please try to replicate my problem and tell me if you get that same warning shown in the last screenshot.

Is The Screen Brightness Issue Fixed With The N82 Black, Or Latest Firmware?

This is a question I know many have. It is one of the questions I've had myself for the longest time. Has Nokia fixed the N82's dull screen brightness? Something so minor can make my overall satisfaction of the phone much greater.

So what do you guys think? Has the problem been fixed with the N82 black or in the latest firmware of the titanium? To me the answer is no. The screen brightness is still considerably darker than other comparable phones like the N73 and N95. I've seen some people say the screen has gotten a little brighter, but I'm just not seeing it. Right now I'm using the N82 black and I'm pretty let down by the screen on my particular phone. Now get this. I've held another N82 black and the screen was brighter. White backgrounds on websites show up white like they should, unlike mine. They are showing up off white, almost creme colored. What gives? This tells me that maybe it is in fact a hardware issue with some of these phones. Maybe something isn't plugged in all the way on my specific N82.

But then get this (again)...

Yesterday I managed to freeze up the phone. I pulled out the memory card and inserted a different one with the phone on. Obviously the N82 didn't like that and locked up. But something odd happened. THE SCREEN GOT BRIGHTER! Well shit now I'm just scratching my head. I mean it was bright. Brighter than the N95 at it's highest setting. I wish someone else would've been there to make sure I wasn't crazy, but I'm not. The damn phone wouldn't unfreeze so I had to remove the battery and restart it. Of course turning it back on put the screen brightness back to the same dim level it was at before. I've also started noticing something I've never seen before. Once in awhile the brightness gets super bright for about a second, then goes back down. I remember some users saying a while back ago that the brightness gets brighter when using a certain application. I can't remember which it is maybe someone can refresh my memory.

So obviously we're back to square one. A firmware issue - the problem lies in the brains of the N82. This CAN be fixed by a firmware update if Nokia chooses too. Maybe they are just not accepting the fact that this is a problem. Now I know this isn't a huge problem and definitely not a deal breaker when purchasing the phone, but damn it would really be nice to have the option of a brighter screen. I don't think we're asking for a lot here. I've seen some comments around the community saying "sure the screen isn't as bright as other Nseries devices, but it's bright enough". Who knows maybe I'm just blowing this out of proportion. Like I said this is still a great phone and I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the Nseries lineup, even with the lack of North American 3g that I recently got a taste of on the N95-4.

Are you happy with your screen brightness? Or do you agree that we should have the option to make it brighter and up to par with other Nokia devices?

Hopefully tonight I'll have time to take side by side pictures with the N73 so you guys can see the difference in brightness yourself.

Firefox Like Multiple Tab Browsing Plus More On Multitasking With Your N82

It's no doubt that the Nokia N82 is a highly capable multimedia computer that comes with plenty of RAM to get more done at once. Juggling different applications and tasks is a breeze, allowing you to be more productive and efficient with your high powered S60 handset.

I recently wrote an article over at Symbian-Addict.com about the Nokia N95 and it's multitasking power. I showed how much these phones can handle and a situation I had where I was switching between about five applications at once without any problems and also linked to a great article by Devin from The Nokia Guide.  All of that applies to the Nokia N82 as well since it does just a good job at handling all these applications. Click here to head over and read that article, but you might also want to read the article below.

Now this is one of the most useful tips I've seen for S60 smarphones. Mark Guim from The Nokia Blog has posted an article showing you how to browse multiple tabs on your Web Browser. I've tested this method out and it works great, giving you more multitasking power just like the highly recommended desktop browser Mozilla Firefox. He mentions that using the browser shortcut #5 key will show you all open tabs so you can easily switch between your open websites. Click here to head over and learn Mark's multiple tab browsing methon for your Nokia N82.

What other tips can you give for multitasking and productivity with your Nokia N82?

Did you find these tips useful?

Freeware: Erase The GPS Location Embedded On Your Photos With Photo Detagger

With the release of the Nokia N82 black and the latest firmware update for the N82 titanium color our phones now have the possibility of geotagging all your photos. What this does is embed the exact GPS coordinates in each file so that you can later easily add them to a map for showing off your photos, just like I showed you last month in this post.

Well with this new feature comes a privacy issue. Don't forget if you leave this geotagging setting on every photo you upload to the internet can be downloaded by anyone. They can then view the exif data on the file and see when and where the file was taken. For certain pictures this can be a problem for various personal reasons. Maybe you don't want people to know where you live or where you were when the photo was taken.

One solution is to use a freeware java application called Photo Detagger made by Tea Vui Huang. I learned of this application today when I was reading a very informative post by Ricky at Symbian-Guru about taking your Nseries camera to the next level. What it does is strip down your file's exif data to the bare minimum.

Essentially what it does is converts your jpeg file to a raw format. Here's the exact descrption from the developers website...

With Tea Vui Huang's Photo Detagger on your mobile phone, you can now detag and wipe out all these tags from your photos before sending them out or posting it on the Internet! Previously, the only other way to do this on the phone was to use the phone's photo editor to alter and resave the file, reducing the quality of the photo in the process. Photo Detagger removes the tags without damaging the photos and in the process even reduces the size of the JPEG photos by about 3-5 KBytes as well.

The detagged photos will be saved to the "Images" folder of the microSD card with a "-001" suffix. You can then send out the detagged photos via MMS or upload it as per normal to your preferred photo-sharing websites or blog.

I've tried this out and it works exactly like it says. Only hassle is it can't dig into sub folders so you have to use a file manager on your phone or pc to move the image to the root images folder before Photo Detagger can see the file and do its work. Hopefully they will fix this in a future update to make the process a little easier.

Make The Nokia N82 Stand On Desk & Take Photos

I've been asked many times - why doesn't the Nokia N82 stand on its own and take photos? This feature would be great to set your N82 on the table, set the timer to 10 or 20 seconds seconds, and run over and be apart of the picture.

Well aparently the N82 can stand on its own, and below is the video to prove it.

Great tip thanks to Lonely Bob's Blog. This should come in handy. Too bad this is the only solution.

Audio Connection Problems Arising On The N82 - Do You Experience This?

Well I personally have experienced this problem once. It seems as though others are seeing it a lot more often. When connecting headphones to the N82, it sometimes freezes up or reboots itself. Now the question is, can this be a hardware problem or a firmware problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a firmware problem. If thats the case, Nokia needs to make sure it's taken care of in the next N82 firmware update. On the other hand, if it is a hardware problem then you would have to go through the hassle of using your warranty and sending it to Nokia to get fixed. Lets hope it's the first problem.

A user over at Howard Forums is reporting that this happens to him about once every fifteen times he connects. Those stats are horrible. If in fact it really is that consistent, it seems as though its a bug in the firmware that needs to be addressed. I also just check out EverythingN82.com forums, and another user is seeing the same problem. You can head over to those forums to join the discussion if your seeing those problems.

Oh and before I hit the publish article button I have one more thing to rant about. And this I know Nokia can fix via firmware update. What happens when your listening to music on your N82 and the cord accidentally comes out or the bluetooth gets disconnected? The music should pause right? Wrong! It starts blasting through the stereo speakers on the phone. How annoying is that while in the office, library, classroom (you should be paying attention anyway), bus, etc etc. The music doesn't stop, it just keeps playing through the loudspeakers. Especially when your blasting your metal jams like God Forbid or Shai Hulud like I usually am. Then you have to fumble around trying to mute the phone or pause the music, looking like a dummy. Nokia, please add a simple little fix that pauses the music when the cord gets unplugged or the bluetooth connection is lost.

Have you experienced any problems similar to these? Leave your comments below so hopefully Nokia will hear our calls!

Tip: How To Reset Your N82 To Factory Settings

Is your Nokia N82 becoming too cluttered? Are you having weird problems that you didn't have when you first got your N82 beauty?

You can try to do a hard reset to restore it back to factory settings. All your contacts, messages, calls, applications, themes > everything will be gone. So BEWARE. Backup your important stuff first. Your memory card will be fine, so anything there will be saved. However, if you have applications installed on the memory card, I recommend deleted those as well.

I always tell people to install applications and themes on the phone memory always! Your phone will run faster, as will the applications. Leave the memory card for your media.

Anyways, to perform a hard reset on the Nokia N82 you do this.

  1. Type *#7370# from the standby screen while your phone is one
  2. It will ask for the lock code which is 12345 unless you have previously changed it. Make sure you do this right, because if you do it too many times the wrong way you can lock up your phone.
  3. And that's it. Have fun re-installing all of your applications and themes.
Hopefully this helps you out if your having problems, or if you just want to clean out your phone.

Do You Have Pencil/Copy & Paste Issues On Your N82? - Maybe It's Garmin

I personally don't use Garmin Maps software, so I've never seen this copy and paste issue with the Nokia N82. Apparently a good handful of people are having strange problems with their copy/paste function being activated and uppercase letters at the same time while writing a text or email.

A few have said that a simple re-flash of the phone will do the trick, however the culprit really seems to be the Garmin Maps program if you have it installed on your N82. It seems to be causing a bug in the N82. Instead of completely removing this application, you can check out a cool workaround, thanks to a curious member of Howard Forums.

Click here to see the workaround and discuss or ask questions.

And (even after you read this) your interested in the Garmin Maps for the Nokia N82, click here to check out the website.
