Accelerometer Games: Space Invaders & Table Soccer aka Foosball

I seriously love games that take advantage of the acceration sensor in the Nokia N82. It brings a whole new dimension to mobile gaming and transforms the simplest games in something I'd play for hours. If playing Foosball (aka Table Soccer) or Space Invaders with the accelerometer sounds fun do you keep reading.

I talked about both of these games over at Symbian-Addict.com last week. Keep in mind both of these games are still in development stages & are not close to being finished.

First up is the popular S60 game AccererInvaders which is a simple Space Invaders clone. There aren't any high scores are saved games here's just launch and play. Great for killing time here & there. See the video below...

The Foosball Table Soccer game is only in the beginning stages of development, but the students who are working on it were nice enough to give us a preview of the game to play around with. Right now theres not much to it. You play with 2 players against one goalie and just keep trying to make shots. Hopefully they develop a full fledged game that has different levels and playing fields. See the video below...

What other ideas do you have for games & the accelerometer. I've always thought the popular game Block Breakers would be a perfect match for the accelerometer & the N82.

Freeware: pyPoziomica - Use Your N82 As A Level

Here is another one of those applications that won't be useful for everyone, but may come in handy for some. Personally I've had it installed on my phone for a while now and only needed to use it once. This is great for those who build things or work in the construction industry. Regardless if you need it or not, it's amazing that the N82 is capable of this...

What pyPoziomica does is convert your Nokia N82 into a level to try and make sure a surface is flat using the built in accelerometer. I've tested it out with a real level and it seems to be dead on. Oh and don't ask me how they came up with that name, no clue.

Check out the video demonstration I found on Youtube, created by the guys at Symbian World...

Before installation, you first need to make sure you have the Python programming language installed, which you can find here. (download the PythonForS60_1_4_3_3rdEd.SIS)
Also make sure you have the Accelerometer Plugin, which you can find here.

CLICK HERE to download the application.

Cheesy Free Game: AccelerInvaders - Use The Accelerometer To Play Space Invaders On Your N82

Remember the old but classic arcade game called Space Invaders. Well it's been ported over to S60 and makes use of the accelerometer in the N82 to control the movement. This has been out for awhile but I've never talked about it here.

I know many of you are hoping for more cool games to be featured here at the blog. There isn't much to AccelerInvaders, but it will keep you busy when your bored at the mall with your girlfriend while she's trying on clothes. I'm hoping that lots of more games coming out also make use of the accelerometer. The game I posted yesterday Frozen Bubble would be a perfect example.

Here is a video of the game being sampled on the Nokia N95...

Free Accelerometer Game: Mirage Money For The N82

Mirage Money is a free game for the Nokia N82 that uses the accelerometer to control movement. But this game has another thing going for it. You pop open your camera lens and whatever your looking at is in the background of the game. Mirage Money isn't really an exciting game or addicting game, but its more of something you can show off or play when your REALLY bored.

Basically coins come flying at you from all directions and you have to move your phone to try and aim at the coins. The more coins you collect the more points you get.

Pretty simple huh?

Thanks to Symbian Web Blog here is a screenshot below.

Quick Question... Would you like seeing more games for the N82 posted here at the blog?

FlipSilent: Flip Your Nokia N82 Over To Silence Calls & Profile

Well the title pretty much says it all. Say your phone is sitting on your desk or table. When it starts ringing, simply pick it up and flip it over face down if you want to either silence the ringer or reject the call. It does what it says without using much RAM. The accelerometer in the Nokia N82 is used to sense if the phone is face up or face down. Remember the Nokia commercial that went around the net months ago showing off the upcoming Nokia touch screen device? Remember the scene where the girl flips her phone over when someones calling? Well the developer of SymbianBlog.com took that idea and ran with it.

One thing this application doesn't do is silence the alarm, which is a bummer I was hoping it would. Maybe we'll have to wait for Samir's version of this application ShutUp! to get that functionality. I also hope the developer releases an update that prevents the phone from changing profiles when it is locked. I find that once in awhile the phone switches profiles when it's in my pocket and I sit down. This is an application that will stay on my phone and come in good use. I'll probably start using it like second nature.

Currently this application is unsigned so you either have to sign it yourself, or give a small donation and the developer will sign it for you, which is just awesome.

For now this application is freeware, but donations are being encouraged to continue the development of this great application.

ShakeLock Freeware: Shake Your N82, Lock Your Phone

This has to be one of the coolest accelerator applications I've seen come out. Believe me we've seen a handful of useless accelerometer applications. Don't get me wrong, there are some good ones, but I think I'd be using this one the most. Basically with ShakeLock you just shake your phone to lock and unlock your Nokia N82. It's that simple, which makes it so beautiful. It's not gonna work unless you give it a good shake, so don't worry about it unlocking in your pocket. Keep in mind this is only the first version, so it will only get better with time.

Best thing is this application is freeware for the N82, but donations are encouraged. If you donate you get the latest updates to the application, so I think it's worth it to give a few bucks. This application is already signed, however, before installing you have to set your phone's date back one year, install ShakeLock, then you can switch the date back. Has something to do with the certificate being expired, good thing you can get around it.

Click here to download ShakeLock for the N82.

Also, if you haven't aready, it looks as though you need to have Python installed on your Nokia N82. You'll end up need Python anyways since a lot of developers are using this method to make applications. Click here to install Python.

I first read it at Symbian-Guru's blog.
