Want to know more about The N82 Blog? Who started it and who writes here? Check it out...
The Nokia N82 Blog was created in February 2008 with the intent to bring a joyous and useful experience to Nokia N82 users all over the world. Since it's meager beginnings up to now (November 2008) this blog has generated over hundreds articles and hundreds of dedicated RSS feed readers - not to mention about 1,500 unique visitors a day eager to become one with their device. The Nokia N82 is still the best cameraphone to date - even after being out for over a year.
Read below to learn a little about Aaron and myself.

I'm 24 years old and I live in sunny Southern California with my beautiful girlfriend and her amazingly large cat. I absolutely love it here besides the crime, traffic, earthquakes, celebrities, etc. Other than all that it's a great place to live. Where else can you go to the beach and surf then drive to the snow and ski all in the same day? Hmmm not sure.
Interests? I love hockey GO KINGS!!!, beer, music, & of course cells phones...
My Nokia/Symbian Story Thus Far
Nokia... ahh yes my N82. I bought my first S60 device a little over a year ago, I believe it was around July 2007. Before that I had never tried a smartphone but I was so intrigued by some of the reviews I was reading all over the internet. This led me to buy the Nokia N73. What a trusty little device. It looked so simple on the outside but sure did pack a punch on the inside. Not mention the camera was probably the most advance on the cell phone market besides the N95. Reading other sites like Symbian-Guru, All About Symbian, and Symbian In Motion inspired me to create my own blog. That's when I started Symbian-Addict. Then in about January I picked up the Nokia N82 and was blown away. That's when I decided to start this blog dedicated to N82 users and fans.
This site you're currently reading and Symbian-Addict.com has opened many doors for me and introduced me to some really great people around the world, a few of whom I've become close friends with. A huge door that opened was a chance to work for Nokia as an Ambassador Relations Specialist in the Symbian S60 Marketing department. I'm currently still working for them and absolutely loving the job. Consider this your full disclosure lol. If you're a S60 Ambassador more than likely I've read and moderated the reports that you sent in, and have probably contacted some of you via email.
What Else I Do...
I also work as a part time longshoreman at the Ports of LA/Long Beach AND also work part time for Anheuser-Busch - that's right BUDWEISER in the Print & Graphics department. Between the jobs and the blogs I keep super busy!
Lastly, I am a website owner, designer, and graphics designer. Websites: Nokia E71 Fanatics, Symbian Addict, and CaliAlive.com (california music website).
Free time? Watch hockey, play NHL 08 on my Playstation 3, kick it with the girlfriend and pals, eat lots of mexican food. I love hilariously stupid funny movies like Beerfest, Big Daddy, Grandma's Boy, Anchorman, Knocked Up, etc. and epic movies such as Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, Platoon, Lord Of The Rings, Fargo, Sin City, V For Vendetta, anything with Tom Hanks, and the list goes on and on.
Recently I got an email from a huge N82 fan named Aaron asking if he can contribute some articles to the blog. Since then Aaron has written about 2 articles a week that get extremely high popularity and user interaction. He is now a full time writer for this site, which leads me to his bio...

Articles
Just a regular guy, 22 years old, from the Philippines. Currently, I’m a Computer Programmer and Analyst on an offshore software company here in Batangas.
I had early interest on electronic devices since I was 6 (if I remember it correctly). That time, I was into digital watches (setting date and time, alarms was really fun ^^) and brick games, lol. Then came cartridge games (family computer), nintendo stuffs (game boy) etc. To cut the story short, I was really into gaming. Still a gamer today but not that much (I think). I am currently hooked on online and network games (DOTA! Rules). Thankfully, I’ve never thought of spending hard cash on PlayStation, xbox and other gaming consoles, though I know how cool games can get there.
School days were fun. I hate geography though. Loved computer subjects in contrast. I also enjoyed musical instruments; guitar, flute, piano etc.
The first mobile device that made my eyes go green is the Nokia 5110. I was in high school, it was my classmate’s. Cool she was then when she raises her phone to get better signal reception, but now, do that and look absurd ^^. Snake was indeed an addicting game.
I was in college, freshman, when I had my own phone, the Nokia 3315. After 3 years with this sturdy device (oh god, feels like forever), I can never be happier when I bought the Nokia 5300. That’s the first buy I did when I got my first job as an IT Instructor. Certainly a great phone it is. I did not sleep that day when I bought it, I spent the whole night, playing with the phone, trying everything possible and reading the manual. And the following days were all about camera, games and application downloads. I am all over the phone and did not stop hailing the s40 platform until I find some weaknesses and its limitations.
Just a few months after, I found myself in search for a phone that sports a better camera and video capabilities. I learned about s60, and before Christmas of 2007, I met and fell in love (deeply) with the Nokia N82. Though the price exceeded my budget (for a Nokia 5610, which I originally planned to buy), all I was thinking was to get my hands on this superb device.
Now I can’t imagine myself without my N82. Thanks to Mike, who gave me the chance to share my experiences with the phone thru his blog.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading.

The N82 Gets A Great PrOn Review From Major TV Website G4
Posted by Mike Macias at 10:14 AM
I just watched this video review of the Nokia N82 and thought I would share it. This review comes from "G4-TV That's Unplugged" and their reviews called "Gadget PrOn". They compare it to the iPhone, which I think is good for the N82 to get this type of exposure because it shows what it can do compare to the iPhone. They also compare it to a real digital camera, saying that it stacks up well. This is the first time I saw this website and it actually doesn't look to bad.
Check out the N82 video review...
Nice to see the N82 getting some recognition right? What did you think of the review?

Audio Connection Problems Arising On The N82 - Do You Experience This?
Posted by Mike Macias at 8:23 AM
Well I personally have experienced this problem once. It seems as though others are seeing it a lot more often. When connecting headphones to the N82, it sometimes freezes up or reboots itself. Now the question is, can this be a hardware problem or a firmware problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a firmware problem. If thats the case, Nokia needs to make sure it's taken care of in the next N82 firmware update. On the other hand, if it is a hardware problem then you would have to go through the hassle of using your warranty and sending it to Nokia to get fixed. Lets hope it's the first problem.
A user over at Howard Forums is reporting that this happens to him about once every fifteen times he connects. Those stats are horrible. If in fact it really is that consistent, it seems as though its a bug in the firmware that needs to be addressed. I also just check out EverythingN82.com forums, and another user is seeing the same problem. You can head over to those forums to join the discussion if your seeing those problems.
Oh and before I hit the publish article button I have one more thing to rant about. And this I know Nokia can fix via firmware update. What happens when your listening to music on your N82 and the cord accidentally comes out or the bluetooth gets disconnected? The music should pause right? Wrong! It starts blasting through the stereo speakers on the phone. How annoying is that while in the office, library, classroom (you should be paying attention anyway), bus, etc etc. The music doesn't stop, it just keeps playing through the loudspeakers. Especially when your blasting your metal jams like God Forbid or Shai Hulud like I usually am. Then you have to fumble around trying to mute the phone or pause the music, looking like a dummy. Nokia, please add a simple little fix that pauses the music when the cord gets unplugged or the bluetooth connection is lost.
Have you experienced any problems similar to these? Leave your comments below so hopefully Nokia will hear our calls!

Wednesday Themesday: Aqua Bubbles And Red Harmony
Posted by Mike Macias at 5:09 PM
I just decided that I'm going to start a new cheesy little program where every Wednesday of the week I will post a handful of cool free themes for the Nokia N82 that I come across. This new day will be called "Wednesday Themesday". Creative huh? Not really, I know.
Anyways, todays themes are a few that caught my eye when I was browsing the Mobile-Review Forums. The first one which I really enjoy because of the bright vibrant colors is called Red Harmony. Sorry for the crappy screenshots, something wasn't right when I took them. I assure you these themes are not blurry.

The next N82 theme is called Aqua Bubbles. It's just what it sounds like, with a little patch of grass on the bottom.

You can find these themes over at Roman Keller Design. The Red Harmony says it's for the Nokia E90, but as you see in my screenshots it works great for the Nokia N82 as well. Make sure you unzip the files first.
Happy Hump Day everyone!
If you have any cool themes to share for Wednesday Themesday, leave your comment below with the link to the theme. Thanks!

First Real World Pictures Of The Nokia N82 In Sexy Black
Posted by Mike Macias at 7:43 AM
Well looky here, I just came across the first real world pictures of the Nokia N82 in sexy black. Seems as though the photos were taken with a crappy camera, or one that had the lens all scratched. I will be getting better exclusive shots of the black N82 sometime today or tomorrow, so keep checking back.
Enjoy...

Update: Looks like I may not be gettin the better N82 black pictures till tomorrow. Seems like people are split on whether they like the this color after seeing these photos. I need to see some better shots before I make a judgment. What do you think?

Dialing A Number With An Extension Or Pin On Your N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 2:17 PM
I just discovered today how frickin easy it is to make your phone automatically input the extension or pin number of your contacts. For instance, every time I call my girlfriends work I have to dial 324 once the call connects to get to her extension. It can get annoying, especially if you call these contacts all the time. Some people like having a pin number for their voicemail. With this feature, you can have the phone automatically input the pin number so you don't have to.Here are the instructions for adding extensions or pins to your contacts:
1. Type the phone number into your S60 device, then insert a 'p' by pressing the '*' key three times. P stands for pause, it will pause the dialing for one second. Need it to pause for three seconds? Simply insert three p's.
2. Next you'll insert the extension or pin ID followed by a hash mark, then insert another 'p'.
3. (if more than one extension) Finally you'll insert the PIN number followed by the hash mark and push SEND.
4. The number you dialed will look like this: +3585012345678p12345#p6789# - It dials the number, pauses for one seconds, inserts the conference ID, pauses again, then inserts the PIN code.
This can even go for numbers of companies you call all the time, like your bank. Multiple extensions are supported! You know, press 1 for English, 1 for account balance, 2 for savings, bla bla bla. Jot it down, and input the digits as pictured above.
Hope you guys & gals find this handy.

Nokia N82 Black Spotted At More Retailers - For Under $500?
Posted by Mike Macias at 11:39 AM
The Nokia N82 black version is looking more and more appealing. Doing a quick search around the web, I got a hold of the part number for the N82 black. Typing that into Google gave me some interesting results. None of these retailers have pictures of the N82 black yet, but they all say "coming soon", "out of stock, or "on order". With the expected release date just over a month away, we should be seeing more information about one of the most anticipated devices in the Nokia lineup.
Here is a rundown of what I found, some of the retailers I've never heard of and a few I have.

Not bad huh? I figured the N82 black would be going for at least $575 dollars to start off. Good move by Nokia to start the pricing low. This thing should sell like hotcakes.
For those interested, the Nokia N82 manufacturer number is 002F5S8. Go ahead and do your own search and see if you come up with anything interesting. Be sure to leave a comment on your findings in the comments below.
Oh and one more thing - Nokia, please let us know if there will ever be a Nokia N82 US 3g version before we go out and buy your N82 black. Thats all, just a simple yes or no. Thanks.

Undressing The N82 With The Repair Manual
Posted by Mike Macias at 10:49 AM

Ever wanted to know what the insides of your N82 looks like. Or even worse, do you need to take yours apart? I personally don't and probably would be too scared to do anything besides change the housing, but I've gotten lots of emails asking how to go about this.
A user over at EverythingN82.com has found an official Nokia N82 service guide available to download. It has all the details of the N82 that you could want in 22 pages, with step by step guides along with pictures to help you disassemble your Nokia N82.
So if your willing to take the risk and pop open your Nokia N82, or you just want to see how the inside looks, click here for the Nokia N82 service manual. If for some reason they take down the file, leave a comment and I'll upload it myself.
For more conversation about disassembling the Nokia N82, head over to EverythingN82.com and join the discussion.

Desktop Text Messenger For Microsoft Vista Users Only
Posted by Mike Macias at 8:50 AM
Nokia is currently working on a cool little program called Text Messenger that you install on your Windows Vista computer that will allow you to read and write text messages directly from your sidebar on your desktop. Of course your N82 needs to be connected via data cable or bluetooth.
Right now this program is still being tested and in beta, so there are going to be problems with it. Too bad this isn't available for Linux or previous Windows versions, hopefully they implement more versions in the future. I personally don't have Vista so I won't be able to test it out.
If your interested in testing out this application you can head over to Nokia Beta Labs and get your copy. Just remember there will be bugs and problems, which is why it's still in the beta testing phase. If you'd like to see this program get better, test it out and be sure to leave your comments over at Beta Labs. Hopefully they can get all the problems squared away.

How To Install Python On Your N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 8:15 AM
With more and more developers using Python to design their applications, it's becoming more and more important to have Python installed on your N82. Applications such as ShakeLock, which I mentioned a few weeks ago, need to have Python installed on your phone in order to work.
As of right now, the latest version of Python for S60 is 1.4.2.
You can click here for the direct link to install Python on your N82.
If you'd like to see where the file comes from, click here. When you get to the download page look for this - PythonForS60_1_4_2_3rdEd.SIS
Want to know a little more about Python?
Python for S60 brings the power and productivity of the Python programming language to the S60 platform. The tools enable rapid application development and prototyping, and the ability to create stand-alone S60 applications written in Python. Click here for the Python For S60 page.

You can't ask for more. I haven't been able to update the site, but I'll have a post with a handful of goodies from the Nokia world. Nothing big, just some rambling and more tips. Hope your all well.

N82 Tip - Save Your Messages, Applications, Themes On Your Phone Memory
Posted by Mike Macias at 2:28 PM
Want to keep your phone speedy and responsive? Make sure you save your messages, emails, applications, and themes on your N82's Phone Memory. For your messages, go into messaging, options, settings, then go down where it says memory in use. There's plenty of internal memory on the Nokia N82, take advantage of it. Just a small tip, but it can be crucial.

New N82 Firmware Update Coming Soon, Bringing Built In Geotagging Of Photos
Posted by Mike Macias at 12:12 PM
Great news for all N82 owners. There is a firmware update coming soon, and it should be a good one. There's not much info right now about the update, other than the fact that we will be getting Photo Geotagging built into the N82. Thats right. When you take a picture, the location will be embedded into the file of the photo using GPS. This is useful for social photo sites such as Flickr, Ovi, and Picasa that allow you to add your photos to a map. Great for showing of vacation photos or hiking trips. Not to worry though, this feature can also be turned off if you have no use for geotagging. If you really want this feature now and your an advanced user, Nokia has made the Location Tagger application available at Nokia Beta Labs. Keep in mind it might be buggy. Click here to check it out with instructions and downloads. I personally haven't tried it out.
No word on when the next N82 firmware update will be available, Nokia says Quarter 1, which ends in March. Hopefully they will add the Web Browser flash support which we've recently seen enabled in the Nokia N95 8gb. As soon as the firmware becomes available I'll be sure to everyone updated.
Do you think you'd find Photo Geotagging handy?

Get The New Google Search On Your Standby Screen
Posted by Mike Macias at 10:01 AM
I just recently posted about this over at Symbian Addict, and I'd like to share it here for N82 users as well. This new Google Search application for the N82 and S60 handsets brings you quick access to anything Google can find on the web, right on your standby screen.
The application comes with a standby screen shortcut which places itself right above the left and right shortcuts, conveniently out of the way of your calendar entries and other shortcuts that you have displayed. The Google shortcut is only viewable when you first get to the standby screen from another application or when you press the pencil key. Thats the catch. The damn N82 didn't come with a pencil key, as featured on older S60 phones. Solution? You can make the application a shortcut on your standby screen and it works the same way.
Google Search for S60 brings you results nearest to your location if it's something physical your looking for like restaurants, movie times, or a specific business. I've been using Google's movie time service in my browser for a while now because the interface is so clean and convenient. They use Fandango's database so the movie times are always accurate. This new application makes movie times even faster. Just type movie times in the search box and your results show up within seconds, depending on your phones connection speed. While you are typing what you want to search for, Google Search automatically connects to the web so that when you push search, it's already connected. Nice little touch be Google.
Below is an example of me on the road, and I need to know where a Big 5 Sporting Goods store is in the area I'm in. Search "Big 5 near Anaheim" with Google Search and it brings up results of all the Big 5's in the area, along with the phone number. If you click the link of the location you want, the next page you get has a small map with the cross streets of the business. You also have the option of getting directions to that location.
Google Search's implementation of the desktop shortcut makes me wonder why other developers haven't done something similar. I've always wanted a little icon of the weather displayed on the standby screen, or maybe some sports scores of my favorite team. Who knows?
Best of all, this application is FREE!
Download this Google Search for S60 application by pointing your phones browser to the http://www.google.com/mobile/ and click "Search" download.
Oh, and I'm still waiting for a native S60 .sis Gmail application to be released.
What do you think? Do you find Google Search for the N82 handy or useless?
Small Update - I just learned that besides quick movie listings, you can also get quick weather, sports scores, stock quotes, and glossary "define: Existentialism".
Type "la kings score" and it gives you a simplified screen with the current score of the game or previous game. Or for weather type "weather new york". And there you have it. Pretty neat huh? Click here for a demo of Google's mobile search.

Free Themes For The Nokia N82: Blue & Green
Posted by Mike Macias at 2:29 PM
Customization is one of the coolest things about the Nokia N82, and why not give it a new look with a new theme.
The first is this cool blue theme. Kinda looks like your under water. This theme comes complete with new icons as well. Click here to download. Make sure you click the 3rd version.
Up next is this green theme called "Envy". It's perfect for those excited about the upcoming drinking and celebrating holiday St. Patrick's Day. Get festive now with this clean green theme for the N82. This theme also comes complete with custom icons. Click here to download.
Both of these themes are brought to you by NokiaSymbianThemes.com. You can find a whole bunch of other awesome themes at that link. They also have lots of applications and games to check out as well. Like I said, I'm going to be posting more cool themes for the N82 that I find around the web more often here at The N82 Blog. Enjoy.
One more thing. It's extremely important to install themes on the Phone's Memory, instead of the memory card. The phone will run faster and the themes are easier to delete if you don't like them. Same goes for applications.
What Kind Of Nokia N82 User Are You?
Posted by Mike Macias at 11:46 AM
I'm interested to see what kind of N82 users read this blog daily, or just check back every now and than. I'm also interested to see what "new" readers consider themselves as well, readers who just found this site via a search engine. Reason being is I want to know if I have a lot of new Nokia or Symbian S60 users. I'm curious to know because I want to see if I should make more posts that have to do with the basic functions of the Nokia N82. Of course I'm going to keep posting about all the cool stuff that the Symbian S60 world brings us, whether it be basic or advanced.
In the right column of this website you will find a poll. Please vote so I can get a general idea of the readers I have here at The N82 Blog.
Thanks, hope everyone is having a great day.

Tip: How To Reset Your N82 To Factory Settings
Posted by Mike Macias at 10:32 AM
Is your Nokia N82 becoming too cluttered? Are you having weird problems that you didn't have when you first got your N82 beauty?
You can try to do a hard reset to restore it back to factory settings. All your contacts, messages, calls, applications, themes > everything will be gone. So BEWARE. Backup your important stuff first. Your memory card will be fine, so anything there will be saved. However, if you have applications installed on the memory card, I recommend deleted those as well.
I always tell people to install applications and themes on the phone memory always! Your phone will run faster, as will the applications. Leave the memory card for your media.
Anyways, to perform a hard reset on the Nokia N82 you do this.
- Type *#7370# from the standby screen while your phone is one
- It will ask for the lock code which is 12345 unless you have previously changed it. Make sure you do this right, because if you do it too many times the wrong way you can lock up your phone.
- And that's it. Have fun re-installing all of your applications and themes.

Shopping For A Nokia N82 - It's A Price War - It's Down To $465 Dollars!
Posted by Mike Macias at 8:05 AM
I knew this would happen. I saw this coming a mile away. The Nokia N82 is officially in a price war. If your shopping for the Nokia N82, now is the time to get one. Heck, I'd even wait a few more weeks. This is what happens when there is a good demand for a product. Everyone wants to sell it since it's in high demand, the prices just get driven down. Of course this is great for the consumer - unless you already have one and are waiting planning to sell it and get the N82 black.
Check out these N82 deals that are being found, thanks to the members of Howard Forums...
First it's Amazon.com - They have the Nokia N82 for $499 with free shipping. Not bad considering it's a reputable dealer. Also a great reputation for customer service. Click here for the deal.
Then Buy.com matched that price - Get it for $499 with free shipping. If you use Google Checkout(similar to PayPal) for the first time, you get $10 off your order. You can get it for $489. Click here for the deal.
Mobile City Online - $549, but they throw in a 4gb memory card. This deal is great for those that want a big memory card. Click here for the deal.
And finally Storm Computer, Inc. - Get the N82 for $465! What a deal. Not sure of the dealer though, this is the first time I've heard of them. Click here for the deal.
This makes waiting it out for the N82 black a hard decision. I'm sure your not going to find the black version cheaper than $600 dollars at least for a few months after it's released. Are you willing to pay an extra $100 dollars just for the color? As of right now, there is no difference between the two phones, other than the color.
Decisions, Decisions. Have you found any better deals? Please leave a comment below.....

How To Set Up Gmail On Your Nokia N82

There are a few ways to check your Gmail on your Nokia N82, I mentioned one way a few weeks ago. Lately I've been using the built-in email application on the N82, and I'm loving it once again. If you set up your Gmail using this method, it will keep your real Gmail inbox in your browser and your phone's inbox in sync. If you dig deep enough into the settings you can even set up your labels as folders. I just use my normal inbox on my N82, and deal with the Gmail labels in Firefox.
Here is how to set up your Gmail for your Nokia N82:
How To Setup Gmail On Your S60 Device:
- Enable IMAP in your Gmail account settings.
- Select 'Messaging' > 'Options' > 'Settings' > 'E-mail' > 'Mailboxes.'
- If you have never set up email on your phone before, select 'Yes' to define a new mailbox. If you already have other mailboxes, select 'Options' and then 'New mailbox.'
- Select 'Start' to begin the setup wizard.
- Select 'IMAP4' and then 'Next.'
- Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') as the email address and select 'Next.'
- Enter 'imap.gmail.com' as the incoming mail server and select 'Next.'
- Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' as the outgoing mail server and select 'Next.'
- Select the appropriate access point and then 'Next.'
- Enter a descriptive name for the email account mailbox name.
- Once your mailbox is set up, select it from the email mailbox settings screen.
- Select 'Connection settings' > 'Incoming e-mail.'
- Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') and password.
- Select 'SSL/TLS' for your security (ports) and define your port as '993.'
- Select 'Back.'
- Select 'Outgoing e-mail.'
- Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') and password.
- Select 'StartTLS' for your security (ports) and define your port as '587.'
- Select 'Back' and change any other settings according to your preferences.
Gmail's IMAP vs. POP
The reason why I use Gmail's IMAP service is because it keeps your mail in sync between both devices, unlike POP setup. If I read an email on my phone, it shows as "read" on both my computer and phone. Same goes for the other way around. Check it on my computer, and it shows as "read" on my phone as well. You can set it to check your mail at different intervals, mine is set to 2 hours, unless I'm expecting an important email.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. It can be tricky, you gotta follow the steps exactly and make sure you type everything right.

A Few N82 Tips From The EverythingN82.com Forums
Posted by Mike Macias at 10:00 AM
I just checked out the forums over at www.everythingn82.com and came across a pretty good post with some cool tips and shortcuts for the Nokia N82.
Here are just a few tips taken from this post at the EverythingN82.com Forums...
*Did you know you can end an active data connection by holding down the Red Button on standby screen?
*Did you know there's a faster way to go back one page in the browser than to use the right soft key? Press 3.
*In gallery if you want to send a file, instead of scrolling through options then send, did you know you can just hit the green button to pop up the send menu?
*Did you know that pressing 5 will open the list of open windows in the browser when 2 or more windows are open?
*Did you know that on S60's in bar form, pressing the left soft key and then * locks the keypad?
Pretty handy right?
Here are a few more tips I'd like to add to this post...
- Holding down the pound key should put the N82 in the "Silent" profile, or silence the phone. This should work on all handsets, but I believe there are a few product codes that don't have this feature.
- When viewing a photo in the Gallery, the 5 key zooms in. You can use the D-pad to scroll around the image, than zoom more by pressing 5 again. The volume keys also do this same function. To zoom back out you push the 0 key. To delete an image quickly, push the "C" button.
- When your done writing your text or email, instead of hitting "options-send", you can just push the green call button.
Do you have any other tips not listed here? Leave a comment to share them.

How To Sign Your Own Unsigned Application For The Nokia N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 8:06 PM
Sometimes you come across new applications that may not be signed by Symbian just quite yet. Signed applications is a method that Symbian uses to ensure that applications are not viruses or too buggy. But sometimes we just want to trust the developers and install the application. There are a few methods for signing applications for your Nokia N82. This one is by far the easiest, thanks to P@sco from Howard Forums.
Since their is so much to the tutorial to get started, I'm just going link to the straight to the post instead of pasting it here. It comes with step by step instructions and screenshots to go along with it. SymbianSigned.com is currently down right now (2-17-08), but it is supposed to go back up tomorrow. That's the site you need to get your certificate from before you start the signing process.
Click here to read the guide on how to sign your unsigned application for the Nokia N82 and other S60 phones.
Speaker - Make Your N82 Speak To You
Posted by Mike Macias at 7:32 PM
Do you ever need your Nokia N82 to talk to you? Tell you things you want to hear? Be your friend? Well this application won't keep you company when your lonely, but it will tell you the date, time, who was the last missed call, number of missed calls, and imei number.
I can't see myself using Speaker often, but it will come in handy for the visually impaired or people who just hate looking at their phone. Not to mention it's free.
Here is a rundown from the developer:
Speaks the following
o Time
o Date
o Phone IMEI
o Number of missed calls today
o Who made the last missed call
* Reboot
* Speak and exit
* Super shortcut
About Super Shortcut
If this mode is enabled, Speaker acts as a shortcut to a list of applications (Messaging, Gallery, Calendar, Camera, Web) . This works only for the Speak and exit mode , thus when Speaker is started in Super shortcut + Speak and exit mode then it will perfrom the default action and then launch the appplication specified in the super shortcut. Thus you can easily set Speaker to be any of your left or right key buttons and assign Super shortcut to another application which speaker will launch.
Speaker is still in beta and they are adding more features. Under development is number of unread messages, read you last message, battery life, and number of appointments. You can make a request for other commands to the developer, which is awesome I think.
You also need to download Python for the N82 to make this application work, which you can find on the download page of Speaker application.
Click here to download Speaker for the N82 and S60 phones, you'll find it lower on the page.

Do You Have Pencil/Copy & Paste Issues On Your N82? - Maybe It's Garmin
Posted by Mike Macias at 6:37 PM
I personally don't use Garmin Maps software, so I've never seen this copy and paste issue with the Nokia N82. Apparently a good handful of people are having strange problems with their copy/paste function being activated and uppercase letters at the same time while writing a text or email.
A few have said that a simple re-flash of the phone will do the trick, however the culprit really seems to be the Garmin Maps program if you have it installed on your N82. It seems to be causing a bug in the N82. Instead of completely removing this application, you can check out a cool workaround, thanks to a curious member of Howard Forums.
Click here to see the workaround and discuss or ask questions.
And (even after you read this) your interested in the Garmin Maps for the Nokia N82, click here to check out the website.

The Nokia N82 Helps The Blind
Posted by Mike Macias at 1:35 PM
In the past few days I've read a few articles about a new breakthrough for the blind and visually impaired that allows the Nokia N82 to read to you when you take a picture of a piece of paper or object. The application is called KNFB Reader. Their are so many ways this application will be useful. Reading menus, bus stops, magazines, receipts, business cards. It can even tell the difference from a $5 dollar bill and a $20 dollar bill. Their are currently a few limits to this application. It can't read hand written text, street signs, round objects like a can of soup. Hopefully they add this functionality in the future. KNFB Reader comes at a hefty price, but I'm sure many would say it's worth it if you can afford it. I got this tip thanks to a reader who also runs a website for the visually impaired called BlindBargains. Click here to check it out.
I also got an email today from a blind N82 user about The N82 Blog and the FlipSilent application working in conjunction with an application called Talks which, reads to you pretty much anything on your N82. You can have it read you texts, emails, websites, the Wayfinder map application, the name of someone calling, names in your address book, etc. The Talks application also supports IM+ to help you keep in touch with your buddies through online chat.
Here is a rundown of what Talks can do:
- Unprecedented Feature/Function Accessibility
- Audio feedback when writing or reading text messages, emails, and notes
- Automatic or manual Caller ID announcement
- Network, battery, and other status indicators read out
- Spelling speed setting
Allows the user to define different speech rates for normal read-out and spelling text. - Various options for reading numbers
Numbers longer than four digits can now be read as single digits, double digits, or whole numbers. - Echo mode
An independent setting allows the user to turn on a special key echo mode for those who like to use the T9 dictionary when entering text. - Echo Passwords mode
Allows the user to hear the letters entered into a password field. - TALKS Key Timeout and TALKS Mode Timeout
Allows the user to set a timeout for cases where the TALKS key is pressed accidentally, and allow to repeat a command or even execute different commands without Pressing the TALKS key again. - Hear caller ID information
Adds speech output to the original user interface of the cell phone. - Software only
No additional hardware is needed. - Voice Familiarity for Increased User Comfort
Nuance TALKS leverages ETI-Eloquence TTS software— used in popular desktop screen readers—making many users feel instantly familiar with the voice they hear for speech output. - Control over volume and speaking rate
- Supports many third-party applications
Supports IM+ (Instant Messenger) [S60], the Wayfinder GPS application [S60], and the Slovoed dictionary [S60 and S80]. - Full Integration with Wayfinder Access
Learning about these technologies for the blind using the Nokia N82 makes me realize how much I take for granted everyday. I truly give so much credit to the visual impaired for finding ways like these to enhance their lives and stay strong, not letting the lack of eyesight stop them from performing everyday tasks. Making phones, take that back - smartphones - accessible for the blind is something that Nokia and Symbian should both proud of.

Y-Browser & Y- Tasks - Get Control Of Your N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 10:34 AM
If your one of those people like me who like having full control over their phone, Y-Browser and Y-Tasks are must have free applications installed on your Nokia N82. They are not applications you'll use every day or have fun using, but are essential to keeping your phone's files organized.
Here is a rundown of Y-Browser:
It's pretty much a File Manager for the N82, similar to viewing folders on Windows or Linux. You can make new files and folders, edit there properties, attributes, name, etc. Delete files, mark files, move files, copy files, paste files.
Y-Browser is currently available in following 30 languages:
English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Danish, Portuguese, Russian Hungarian, Dutch, Polish, Slovenian, Chinese(PRC),Chinese(Taiwan), Thai, Bulgarian, Indonesian, Hebrew, Romanian, Lithuanian, Turkish, Slovak, Greek, Croatian, Finnish, Serbian, Norwegian, Macedonian & Arabic.
Y-Tasks is only available in English.

Watch YouTube On Your Nokia N82 With Mobitubia For Free
Posted by Mike Macias at 7:46 AM
Ever get bored waiting for your lover while she's doing her makeup or trying on clothes (sorry ladies). Or sitting in the airport getting stuck at a railroad crossing? Chances are if you own a Nokia N82, your not bored. Now with Mobitubia, there's no chance in hell your gonna be bored. With Mobitubia, you get full accesss to the Youtube database on your Nokia N82 in good quality, full screen format. The load time is actually pretty quick as well. On an Edge connection here in the States, a 2 minute video loads in about 1.5 minutes, and you can start watching the video even before it fully loads. For you lucky European users, you'll have pretty much no wait time on a 3g connection. And if your in a WiFi area, this works great as well. Best of all you can save your viewed clips to your memory card if you want to check em out later, without having to reload them.
Mobitubia loads up with a decently clean interface. The icons are slightly choppy, but not annoying. You have so many of Youtube's normal features in this application.
If you go to the Youtube icon you get the following:
- Recently Featured
- Popular Clips
- Open Web Clip (if you know the URL)
- View by Youtube ID
- Clip Search

You have so many options while watching a video clip as well.
- Play/Pause
- Replay
- Status Bar (show, hide, autohide)
- Max Frame Skip (keep it at 0)
- Save Clip (when finished viewing, to your phone or card)
- Back and Exit
Amazing enough, this application is free to use but donations are encouraging to keep up development of this great application. Also, make sure you have an unlimited data plan or use this on a WiFi connection, Mobitubia uses tons of data.
To never get bored ever again, click here to download Mobitubia and watch YouTube on the Nokia N82. Be sure to come back and give us your thoughts.

Simply The Best Calculator For The Nokia N82 = Calcium
Posted by Mike Macias at 5:12 PM
The built in calculator on the Nokia N82 isn't user friendly. Simple as that. Too much scrolling just to get to the division sign. It's annoying to use.
Want something simple? Try out the Calcium Calculator for the Nokia N82. It's simple, pretty, big, and to the point. Usually when people bust out their phone calculator it's for a tip calculation or figuring out your bank account balance real quick. No need for an annoying and clunky calculator. The image you see to the left is exactly what the Calcium Calculator is. Move the joy up and you get addition, down is subtraction, on and on. Beautiful.
Oh and did I mention it's FREE!
Click here to download Calcium Calculator for the Nokia N82.
Note: This application doesn't need to be signed, but chances are your going to get a certificate error. An easy solution is to set your phones date back one year, install Calcium, then you can switch it back to normal.

Nokia N82 Black Available For Preorder - Again
Posted by Mike Macias at 2:26 PM
A few days ago I posted that the Nokia N82 black version will be pushed back to April. Well sure enough, Mobile City Online has put up a preorder page for this product with a April 2nd arrival date and a price point of $599. No doubt this phone will be a huge hit, even though it looks as if this won't be the N82 USA 3g version that so many North Americans are hoping for. I'll definitely be picking up this black version, with US 3g or not. I'm keeping my ears open for any rumors that have to do with a NAM 3g N82, so I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.
FlipSilent: Flip Your Nokia N82 Over To Silence Calls & Profile
Posted by Mike Macias at 10:20 AM
Well the title pretty much says it all. Say your phone is sitting on your desk or table. When it starts ringing, simply pick it up and flip it over face down if you want to either silence the ringer or reject the call. It does what it says without using much RAM. The accelerometer in the Nokia N82 is used to sense if the phone is face up or face down. Remember the Nokia commercial that went around the net months ago showing off the upcoming Nokia touch screen device? Remember the scene where the girl flips her phone over when someones calling? Well the developer of SymbianBlog.com took that idea and ran with it.
One thing this application doesn't do is silence the alarm, which is a bummer I was hoping it would. Maybe we'll have to wait for Samir's version of this application ShutUp! to get that functionality. I also hope the developer releases an update that prevents the phone from changing profiles when it is locked. I find that once in awhile the phone switches profiles when it's in my pocket and I sit down. This is an application that will stay on my phone and come in good use. I'll probably start using it like second nature.
Currently this application is unsigned so you either have to sign it yourself, or give a small donation and the developer will sign it for you, which is just awesome.
For now this application is freeware, but donations are being encouraged to continue the development of this great application.
Click here for the direct download of the latest version.
Check out the video of FlipSilent in action:

TextQuick For The Nokia N82 - Start A Text Faster
Posted by Mike Macias at 6:45 PM
A feature missing on the Nokia N82 is the ability to start a text, and have the option to select "recently used" or "most used" contacts instead of scrolling through your full list. This option is implemented on Nokia's Symbian Series 40 handsets, who knows why they didn't add this to the Nokia N82.
Well, the guys from Mind Flip came up with an application called TextQuick. Basicly, with one click, you get a list of your most "texted" contacts, and you just select the one you want, and start typing your message just like you would in the regular messaging application. The look and feel is exactly the same. It saves you a lot of clicking and scrolling. And if the contact your trying to text isn't on your popular list, just scroll or start typing the name, and it will show up. Also, if you hit the green call button, it allows you to call the contact instead of sending a text. So essentially its a CallQuick application also.
I find this application to be one of the most used 3rd party apps I have, and keep it as my right softkey as you can see to the left. You can get a free 30 day trial from Mindflip by clicking here, and if you like it you can keep it for only $10, you can't go wrong. This is one of the few commercial applications I use.

Nokia Maps 2.0 Beta Available For Nokia N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 9:34 AM
Nokia just announced the future of the Maps application at the Mobile World Congress event. And with this announcement you can now download the new Nokia Maps 2.0. But be careful it's still in beta, however reports are coming in that it's stable. One of the biggest features announced is real time traffic conditions. Right now it's only supported in European countries, but we should be getting some USA love soon. Maybe this will replace the necessity for the Google Maps application.
Here is a rundown of the new features in Nokia Maps 2.0 -
Nokia Maps 2.0 adds Walk, a pedestrian focused navigation component to the application, while still offering Drive, a world class car navigation system. The pedestrian navigation efficiently walks you from A to B with visual turn-by-turn guidance. It helps you to locate yourself by giving information about the surrounding buildings, streets and parks (including pathways through the park).
Upgrading to the GPS navigation option enables your mobile to become a powerful connected personal navigation device, that provides clear, turn-by-turn visual and voice guidance. If your Nokia device doesn't have built-in GPS, you can also use an external GPS module with a compatible device. Nokia Maps 2.0 will also have, for an optional fee, real-time traffic feeds with dynamic re-routing in 18 European countries. With vector maps provided by TeleAtlas and Navteq, Nokia Maps now has maps covering over 200 countries, with over 70 of them navigable.
Nokia Maps 2.0 can also lead you to the nearest transit station using localized icons in 17 cities so you can hop on the Metro to get across town. While you are on riding on the Metro you can discover and explore new places using the hybrid satellite views or by purchasing one of the new multimedia city guides from companies like Berlitz. The expert advice on where to go and what to do, combined with the integrated Nokia mobile search, helps Nokia fulfill its goal of bringing people context aware Internet services forward.
For some awesome photos and a good review, check out this post by The Symbian-Guru. Ricky was one of the first to get his hands on this application.

How Do You Gmail On Your Nokia N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 10:15 PM
There are a few different ways to get your Gmail inbox on your N82. I've been dying to see a .sis version of a Gmail application, similar to what Google did for us with Google Maps. The difference between a native Symbian .sis application and a java application is astonishing. The speed, response, scrolling, load time, is all so much better as a native S60 application. But I have heard nothing of Google creating a Symbian Gmail application for us. So for now we only have a few options.
Option 1 is to use Gmail's java application. This application is great for non s60 smartphones, but can't take full advantage of a Symbian platform. From the time I launch the application to the time the application loads, it takes about 23 seconds to get itself fully loaded and retrieve my mail. That's just ridiculous. Once it's loaded however, you get almost all the options you have while using Gmail in a real browser. The application runs smooth and fast, although just doesn't seem as good as a native Symbian application. I have to give it to Google though, they created a great application for basic phones.
The next option is to setup your built in email application to be used with Gmail and IMAP, just like I talked about in this old post. Setting up Gmail isn't that hard using the email wizard that comes with your N82 phone. Once it's all set up, you can tell your email application to check for new mail anywhere from always on to every 6 hours. This can really come in handy. When you have new mail, the phone alerts you like it would a text message. You can then view your subject line and have the option to read it. If you decide to read your mail, your phone will then have to re-connect to Gmail. Doing this takes anywhere from 15-60 seconds depending on how updated your mailbox is. If you haven't check your mail for awhile, this process can take up to a minute or more to match your phone's email application with your Gmail account. I started to get really annoyed with this method.
The last option is one that I just started using. You can access your Gmail account via the Web Browser. Gmail's mobile email interface used to look ugly and was too simple. I noticed recently that they've updated the interface and give you more options to work with. On the newer S60 phones like the N95 and N82 you can assign one of your bookmarks as an active standby shortcut. I decided to give this a shot and made this my left softkey. If your using an older model Nokia you can make Gmail your homepage and this will load when you first click the Web Browser application. From the time I launch this shortcut the Gmail page loads in under 10 seconds. And that's on an Edge connection, not 3g. You are then presented with a simple interface, similar to the desktop version. Each email has a check box that you can mark. Afterwards you scroll to the bottom of the page and have the "more actions" box. You
can move to inbox, mark as read, mark as unread, and add or remove stars. You can also report spam, archive, and delete. Pretty much everything you can do with the desktop version. Below that you get compose mail, inbox, sent mail, all mail, spam, contacts. You can click "more" and choose labels to show as well. You can also search all your contacts, something that is lacking when using the built in email application. This method I think so far is the best to use with Gmail, as long as you have a good, fast, internet connection. Like I said, running this option on an Edge connection is fast enough for me, and still keeps your Gmail perfectly in sync across your phone and computer.
Hopefully Google keeps updating there mobile Gmail interface like they have for the iPhone. I would really like them to tie in all there applications into one nice mobile page including Google Reader, Calendar, and Picasa. I think they will keep giving us updates and new features. Just make sure if you use any of these methods you have an unlimited data plan or be prepared to get a lot of charges. The first option I gave is probably the best for data consumption, but don't quote me on that.
Of course there are other 3rd party applications you can use to get your Gmail, one of my favorites is Emoze. I just don't like the amount of RAM that it takes up, especially if you leave these applications open.
Are there any other options that I'm missing? I'll be posting some screenshots of these methods tonight when I have some extra time.
For now, if you haven't already, check out this link to see Google's Mobile Gmail page.

N-Gage First Access On Your Nokia N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 9:20 AM
If you haven't heard, a few days ago N-Gage announced that you can now play N-Gage on your Nokia N81. WTF? Why just the N81. Sure because it has gaming keys, but who cares? Well somebody decided to take matters into there own hands and extracted the application and it you can now play N-Gage on your Nokia N82. Hell yeah! I haven't tried it out yet, but I have played a few games on my N73 and damn the graphics are smooth. Just look at the Brothers In Arms screenshot to the left. AMAZING! I never used to be into mobile gaming, except for an occasional game of Tetris here and there. That is until N-Gage was announced. If you didn't know, N-Gage is a mobile gaming platform owned by Nokia. Click here to learn about N-Gage.
So how do you get N-Gage on your N82? Pasco from Jaspp.net has posted a link to the application N-Gage application that you can download and install on your N82. Click here to get the installation file. Can you get it working on your N82?

ShakeLock Freeware: Shake Your N82, Lock Your Phone
Posted by Mike Macias at 7:54 AM
This has to be one of the coolest accelerator applications I've seen come out. Believe me we've seen a handful of useless accelerometer applications. Don't get me wrong, there are some good ones, but I think I'd be using this one the most. Basically with ShakeLock you just shake your phone to lock and unlock your Nokia N82. It's that simple, which makes it so beautiful. It's not gonna work unless you give it a good shake, so don't worry about it unlocking in your pocket. Keep in mind this is only the first version, so it will only get better with time.
Best thing is this application is freeware for the N82, but donations are encouraged. If you donate you get the latest updates to the application, so I think it's worth it to give a few bucks. This application is already signed, however, before installing you have to set your phone's date back one year, install ShakeLock, then you can switch the date back. Has something to do with the certificate being expired, good thing you can get around it.
Click here to download ShakeLock for the N82.
Also, if you haven't aready, it looks as though you need to have Python installed on your Nokia N82. You'll end up need Python anyways since a lot of developers are using this method to make applications. Click here to install Python.
I first read it at Symbian-Guru's blog.

Getting Creative With Duotone Colors & The Nokia N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 4:58 PM
Nokia Creative is one of my favorite Nokia blogs to read, mainly because they do just that. Get creative with Nokia phones. In this post, they show you how to make your 'dull looking photos' look great using duotone colors. They say that "Perhaps the easiest way to describe a duotone photo, is to say that it’s a black and white image underpinned by one other base colour."
Not many pictures come out dull on the N82, but once in awhile a good picture is lacking color and saturation. Who would've thought that pictures this good were shot with a cell phone?
Click here to learn how to use duotone colors on photos shot by the Nokia N82, and also check out some great photo samples.
Save More Battery Life On Your Nokia N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 4:00 PM
It's no secret that the N82 already has a decent battery, especially for a smartphone and xenon flash. It's not quite as strong as the N73's (who knows why Nokia didn't put the same battery), but it still holds pretty good. Here is a little write-up I did at Symbian Addict last year that very much applies to the Nokia N82 and saving battery life. All of these tips are great to get overall longer battery life, but can be extremely crucial when your running low on the battery and don't have a charger near by.
1. Set your Network Mode to GSM Mode when not using 3g.
When your running low on battery life, or you don't get a 3g connection in your area, improve your battery life by changing your network mode to GSM only. 3g is best for internet use, and is the best way to go for voice as well, but GSM ain't that bad for voice. If I'm not planning on using the internet and I'm running low, I'd shut it off. This will stop your phone from searching constantly for a 3g signal that might not even exist in your area. This is one of the first things I did when I got my Nokia N73 since it doesn't even have US 3g capabilities. On the Nokia N82 you go to Tools, Settings, Phone, Network.
2. Change Your Screen Display Settings.
These Nokia handsets already have bright and beautiful screens. There's no need to keep the light set to the brightest possible setting. That will drain your battery fast! Then again, I don't like my screen dim and dull either. I set mine to the setting right below the highest. It keeps the screen bright and sharp, and does a lot to save on battery life.
Also, set your light time-out to something lower like 40 seconds. You'd be surprised at how much an extra 20 seconds at a time can drain your battery. Say you touch your phone 200 times throughout the day. Thats an extra 40 minutes your backlight is on if you keep at 60 seconds, as apposed to 40 seconds. Tools, Settings, General, Personalisation, Display.
And when your on that very last bar, just suck it up and turn your brightness all the way down. It should add a good deal of time to the small amound of life you have left.
3. Don't Leave Applications Running When Unused.
Keeping applications open in the background when your not using them can be costly to your battery. A lot of times, new S60 owners don't know that if you don't properly close out of the application, it will just get minimized to the background. Check out this post for information on a Task Manager, which allows you to see and close all your open applications, including some that might be hidden and not needed.
4. Turn Off WLAN Scanning if your not using it.
If you don't turn this off, your phone will always be searching for a hotspot and waste battery life. It's just not necessary unless your near a known hotspot browsing the web.
If you have any other ways you save battery life on your Nokia handset, share your thoughts.

Nokia N82 Black Pushed Back To April - BOOOO!
Posted by Mike Macias at 3:20 PM
Well as much as I've been waiting for this awesome phone, now we have to wait even more. We're getting reports from Howards Forums that the release of the black Nokia N82 has been pushed pack to mid April. We originally thought it would be released on February 15th, remember? Why Nokia, Why? You already know that so many are just dying to get there hands on this version, just like I mentioned earlier this week at Symbian Addict. Maybe Nokia is planning to beef it up a little. Maybe give it a 2.6" screen and USA 3g. I highly doubt that would happen, but we can dream can't we?
N95 fans should be happy to hear that the N95 8gb US 3g version is still slated for a mid February release.

A Stand For The Nokia N82 - Nice Find By The Nokia Guide
Posted by Mike Macias at 2:51 PM
I've been wondering if there is a stand that fits the Nokia N82, and apparently there is. But it's not the one in the picture. Nobody can seem to find that product online, I think it was showcased at a Nokia show. But Devin at the Nokia Guide found a similar product that might just do the job.
Would you find this a good accessory? I would love having this if it also charges your phone or acts as a usb cable for your computer, similar to an iPod cradle. I can't tell if it does or not, that will be awesome if it does. If it doesn't charge your phone, then I really see no use in getting this thing, I'd rather just set my phone down on the table. What do you think?
Either way, check out this article at The Nokia Guide for more information on this product.
Skyfire: New Full Desktop Browser Coming To Nokia N82
Posted by Mike Macias at 2:41 PM
Thanks to Phoneboy, I just read some news over at Howard Forums about a new mobile browser for Symbian S60 devices that brings you a true desktop browser experience. Skyfire will use the same idea as Opera Mini, in which it a backend proxy server to process the website to work on your Nokia phone. It will feature full flash support for websites such as Youtube and Espn.com. The latest Nokia N95 8gb firmware update already gives browser flash support, but people still run into out of memory errors, and the Nokia N82 doesn't even support this yet. Hopefully this new 3rd party browser can solve that problem. I think it's great that Nokia will have new competition with 3rd party web browsers, it will only push them to make the built-in one better. Best thing is this application will be FREE!
I actually found a video of Skyfire mobile browser being tested on a Windows Mobile device. See below...it looks absolutely amazing.
This application is slated to be released for S60 sometime this quarter. Click here for the original article at Phoneboy's blog.
Update: I just posted over at Symbian Addict about a new review for Skyfire by the website called Brighthand.com. They have a new demo video, check it out below:

The Nokia N82's Flash Beats Out A Kodak 5MP @ Symbian World
Posted by Mike Macias at 2:25 PM
Well I've been waiting for someone to compare the xenon flash of the Nokia N82 to the flash of a dedicated digital camera. I've been speculating in my head since the release of the Nokia N95 if a camera phone can replace a digital camera for everyday and night use. Of course the led flash of the Nokia N95 fails vs. a digital camera. But take a look at these comparison pictures done by Symbian World. In a battle of dark lighting between the Nokia N82 vs. a Kodak Z740 5MP Camera, the Nokia N82 came out on top. This is great news for those who are trying to decide if they don't want to lug their digital camera around all over the place.
Check out a few samples below:

(click photos for full image)
So what do you think. Obviously the N82 the trophy in this shootout. The average price is about $230 bucks for that Kodak Z740. If you look hard enough, you can find a Nokia N82 for no more than $550. For me the extra couple hundred bucks would be worth it. It depends on the user. For me, I would no longer need a digital camera. These samples are proof enough for me that it's just not necessary. All the tests I've seen show that the camera starts up in about 2 seconds on the Nokia N82, just as fast as my digital camera. Zoom functions are much better on a digital camera, but I rarely use zoom at all.

The Nokia N82 Black - First Real Pictures From The Nokia Store
Posted by Mike Macias at 10:36 AM
Thanks to a tip from one of Symbian Addict's readers "Kostya", the first real Nokia N82 Black photo has been spotted, and it's on an official Nokia product page. You can find it at this link about half way down the page, for a decent price point of $629. I figure after a few months you should be able to pick one up for about $550. If you follow this blog, you already know how excited I am about this release. This is a quick post so this is all I got for now. I'll be posting screenshots of the website just in case Nokia decides to take them down.

New Nokia N82 Firmware Update, User Data Preservation Now Works
Posted by Mike Macias at 8:51 AM

I posted a few weeks ago about the news of "User Data Preservation" which means when you update your Nokia firmware, you won't lose your settings, applications, contacts and calendar entries. Pretty much nothing should be lost.
Well today the Nokia N82 recieved a small firmware update. The new firmware version is 11.0.117. User data preservation reportedly works well. This is huge news for Nokia enthusiasts and just goes to show that Nokia is listening to their customers.
An official changelog has not been released, but I'm reading that it's mostly crucial bug fixes. This update is currently available for European product codes.

Welcome To The Nokia N82 Blog
Posted by Mike Macias at 6:53 AM
This is my first post here at the Nokia N82 Blog. This site will be dedicated to the Nokia N82 Smartphone. Here you will find applications, reviews, themes, news, and features for the Nokia N82. In the near future I'll be posting a guide on signing applications for those that are not Symbian signed.
If you don't know, I also write at The Symbian Addict, a blog dedicated to all Symbian & Nokia smartphone news. You will find some articles posted here about the Nokia N82 also at The Symbian Addict.
A little about me: I'm 23 years old from Southern California. I love music (prefer hardcore, metal, & rock), hockey (I'm a huge LA Kings fan), good movies, and of course Nokia smartphones. I work as a longshoreman unloading container ships at the Port Of LA & Long Beach, and also work for Anheuser Busch (Budweiser) in the Graphics & Marketing Department making posters and banners going up in bars and liquor stores all over the South Bay.
